Is it really so hard to answer these questions? Here's our second try, to AZ
Representative Russell Pearce. This second attempt was generated by meeting Mr.
Pearce at the disastrously disorganized potential riot called the Community
Forum at Mesa Community College. More on that fiasco is due shortly, but
here's a copy of a letter
we sent to our State House rep and yet await a reply to.

Now I'd like to make it clear that I mispoke, in a sense: the phrase
"Mother's choice" I used as a placeholder, something wrong-enough looking that
when I proofread I'd adjust more to my meaning. What I would have written in
place of it, had I indeed gone back and reread it, was more along the lines of
"a woman's self-determination with regards to pregnancy".

Dear Mr. Pearce,
I spoke with you briefly after the unfortunately raucous community forum
at MCC this week. I wanted to thank you for speaking with me about the
rationale behind your views on marriage and, even as I disagree with
you, appreciated the opportunity to learn more about your viewpoint.
I had mentioned, if you recall, a statement on your website that seemed
out of place for someone whose views on liberty and small government I
do agree with. You say, "We must preserve marriage (by federal law if
the courts make it necessary) as a union between a man and a woman."1 I hope you don't take offense at my suggesting that
that is the sort of State-mandated intrusiveness I'd expect from some of your
opponents.
Speaking as a Citizen of this great country, I am frequently dismayed
that I must choose between candidates who support liberty, the Second
Ammendment, small government and personal responsibility, and those who
support a diversity of lifestyles, personal privacy, a mother's choice,
and stand in opposition to legislated morality. I feel I have a better
understanding of your position on marriage and I thank you for that
again. I remain curious however if it is your intention to bring the
Federal Government into the issue. I'd like to know as it will likely
affect how I vote in the coming election.
